The Travel Club Sails the Douro River
Did you know TravelPerks has a travel club? Each year the Club embarks on
fabulous vacations personally-escorted by Gary and Theresa, owners of Dream Vacations TravelPerks. “The Douro River cruise was my third (cruise) with Gary
and Theresa. When I first saw the
brochure in January 2017, I knew from past experience, if they were planning
and escorting clients this would be an exciting, fun-packed, historical
adventure. I was not disappointed” says
Edie Granger, a guest on the Douro trip.
Recently the Travel Club cruised down the Douro River from
Lisbon to Porto along the border of Portugal and Spain. The Douro is one of the major rivers of the
Iberian Peninsula and flows across northern-central Spain and Portugal to its
outlet in Porto. The region is famous
for port wine, which is wine fortified with Brandy. The area is relatively new to tourism, which
offered the group a unique experience not had by many.
"This was our first river cruise and first pre-planned trip with guides, as we have always traveled solo and booked everything ourselves. It was an unexpected treat, and having everything planned and organized by someone we could trust was a bonus!" says Rhonda and Lynn Moore, guests on the Douro trip. The Travel Club offers clients an opportunity to visit
places, and experience itineraries that are completely unique and new. River cruising offers travelers the ability
to reach hidden gems that only land travel provided in the past, but with the convenience of needing to only unpack once. Because the Club travels with the owners, the
hassle of planning what to see and when is completely taken care of, and more
time can be spent just enjoying the ride “My favorite activity was the mornings we cruised down the Douro and one evening when a client and the pianist sang together and several
of us danced until midnight or after. That was delightful!” says Granger.
If you are interested in joining a Travel Club trip, the next adventure begins November 23, 2018 in Vietnam. Gary and Theresa will take this next group down the Mekong River,
visiting rural villages, historic pagodas, local markets and a Buddhist monastery. An optional itinerary includes a two-day
pre-visit in Ho Chi Minh City, and a five-day post trip tour in Siem Reap and
Ha Long Bay (Hanoi). The cruise portion of the trip is seven nights. There is no cost to join the club, so for
