Halloween Themed Cruises
During the month of October many cruise lines get into the
Halloween spirit by having celebrations and trick-or-treating on the 31st,
however a couple of cruise lines go all out and begin celebrating as early as
September. If you are considering cruising during the Halloween holiday, here
are some things to consider.
- If you are not planning to celebrate the
holiday know that most cruise lines will offer Halloween festivities on October
31, such as a costume party and trick-or-treating. - On the other hand if you welcome the thought
of a spooktacular-themed cruise, then consider cruising on Disney Cruise Lines or
Carnival because they celebrate the holiday for much longer. - If you will be cruising in Mexico around
Halloween, be aware of the Dia de Los Muertos holiday celebrated there from
October 21-November 2.It is not equivalent
to Halloween as it is a holiday where Mexican people celebrate the passing of
loved ones, but while you are there you will find decorations and Dia de Los
Muertos themes.
Our very own Kaela Jarvis recently cruised on Disney Magic
from NYC to Quebec and was able to take in the whole ghostly experience.“I really enjoyed one of the evenings when
they acted out a live scary story for the kids in the promenade. People were dressed
up as characters from the “Nightmare before Christmas”. When all the kids were huddled around watching
the show the giant tree covered in pumpkins came to life!! The tree moved and
stretched, the pumpkins glowed, and the kids screamed, it was priceless.”
Disney ships are decorated for the holiday with
jack-o-lantern faces in the porthole windows, spiderwebs made of pearl strands (ala
Cinderella) and of course the pumpkin tree in the atrium.Special activities during a Halloween cruise
include costume contests, trick-or-treating, spooky desserts, haunted stories
at sea, Halloween movies under the stars or in your stateroom, as well as
adults-only nighttime parties.
